Ancestral Roots India is an Indian genealogy and historical research initiative dedicated to helping people discover, document and preserve their Indian ancestral heritage.
Our work is particularly focused on the Indian diaspora and descendants of indentured labourers (Girmitiyas) whose ancestors left India during the colonial period.
Over generations, many families became separated from their ancestral villages.
- Family names changed, memories faded,
- borders and administrative boundaries changed,
- and important historical records became scattered across archives and institutions.
Yet, in many cases, traces of those journeys still exist.
Our work is to find those traces.
